The Blair Witch Gets Her Sequel

In 1999 the movie The Blair Witch Project caught everyone off guard with it’s unique “found footage” look and it’s equally unique advertising campaign. It was an interesting phenomenon to witness to say the least. I remember there were two distinct groups of people that I knew back then. People who loved it and people who hated it. I’ll be honest I didn’t care much for it, but I did recognize the attributes that people loved about the film. It’s advertising ploy was unmatched. It created a buzz that used everything around it creating an urban legend that was never really real to begin with all for the sake of making the movie more believable. Genius! The found footage wasn’t explored like this before hardly so that helped add to the mystery that surrounded the film itself. It was destined to get a sequel and in a way it did.

Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows came out a year later in 2000 and tried to have the found footage angle combined with traditional film making. In my humble opinion it was rushed and it sucked. Plus it is extremely difficult to try to top something that made the kind of impact The Blair Witch Project had. After years and years of rumors of more movies in the saga coming our way it was assumed that anything mentioned would be another rumor and that the legend of The Blair Witch was in fact truly dead. That is until 2016.

That’s right folks a long awaited true sequel to the movie is on it’s way…soon as a matter of fact with a release date of September 16th. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet we have it for you here…

Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the original I do hope that this one somehow creates it’s own magic to redeem itself from Book of Shadows. The trailer of course looks good but also looks like it’s very similar to the original movie just with new characters. I fear that is the case, but still will keep an open mind.
